After his plan to take away the power from Prince Regent Lee Ha Eung had failed, because his son, King Go Jong, lacked the courage to stand his promise to give his approval, Choi Cheon Joong accepted the unexpected proposal to join hands with Lee Ha Eung again for the sake of “Joseon and its people”.
No matter how many times Choi Cheon Joong showed his sincerity in keeping up with his promises, Lee Ha Eung couldn’t be trusted fully. When head merchant
Lee Deok Yoon organized a feast for Choi Cheon Joong and Lee Bong Ryeon,
Lee Ha Eung showed up as well. He challenged the attending fortune tellers, and Choi Cheon Joong too, to tell their prophesy of Joseon’s future.
Choi Cheon Joong spoke his mind freely and sincerely which angered Lee Ha Eung to the degree he wanted to draw a sword. Not only Lee Ha Eung was angry. The face of the head merchant turned dark as well after Choi Cheon Joong’s words.
Soon it turned out Choi Cheon Joong was betrayed by the two people he trusted most, Lee Deok Yoon and Queen Min Ja Young. They submitted a fabricated false letter causing a confrontation between Lee Ha Eung and Choi Cheon Joong.
This false letter made Choi Cheon Joong fall down on his knees to beg for his people’s life.
